{Poll} Which FOF celeb wedding dress would you wear?

For many FOFs, a second marriage or a late-in-life marriage is a chance to redefine tradition. Starting with . . . the dresses. Take a look at the outfits that each of these 5 FOF celebs donned on their big day and tell us: I do! or I don’t!

Was this her…something blue? The fifty-year-old “Hot in Cleveland” star rocked a turquoise dress for her New Year’s Day Malibu wedding to financial planner Tom Vitale. The dress was designed  by David Meister who had just two weeks to put it together. According to People magazine, it was “a nod to 1940s old Hollywood glamour with a plunging neckline and draped sleeves, the gown also offered a front leg slit for a dose of ‘modern sexy.'” Valerie paired it with strappy Jimmy Choo shoes. The wedding is Valerie’s second — she wore white at her first wedding to Eddie Van Halen, whom she divorced in 2007.

In August of 2008, just two months after same-sex marriage became legal in California, Ellen DeGeneres and longtime love Portia de Rossi became lawfully wedded wives. Ellen was 50 and Portia was 35. The wedding was held at their $29 million Beverly Hills home. Portia chose a backless pink dress with a full skirt and Ellen chose white pants, a sheer white shirt and white vest. “I want to shout out to Zac Posen; he designed our outfits and they were absolutely gorgeous,” said Ellen on her talk show following the wedding. “You’ve chosen right if you’ve married in white. You’ll be forever blessed if you’re married in a vest. So I chose a vest.”

When Marcia Cross’s Desperate Housewives character, Bree Van de Kamp, got married, she wore a dress by designer Reem Acra. It was then that Marcia knew she wanted Reem Acra to design the dress she would wear for her own wedding to stockbroker, Tom Mahoney. “It was just a beautiful dress and she [Reem Acra] was kind enough to… make me another one that’s sort of similar,” said Marcia. Marcia accessorized her white custom Reem Acra gown with a cathedral-length veil and Neil Lane platinum-and-diamond jewelry. The couple was married in San Gabriel, California, in 2006. She was 44 and he was 50. The couples first dance was to Etta James’s “At Last.” “You had to pick that one if you’re our age,” she joked.

Everything seemed to go wrong for the 2005 wedding of Camilla Parker Bowles and Prince Charles. Was Camilla’s dress the only success? Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, was 57 when she married Charles in an elegant cream chiffon dress designed by her favorite designer, Anna Valentine. It was hemmed with appliqued disks from Switzerland and paired with an oyster-colored coat. The outfit was such a hit that Camilla reportedly wore it again two years later for the opening of the Welsh Assembly. There’s nothing wrong with a little royal recycling… is there?

What did the woman who swore she’d never walk down the aisle… wear down the aisle? At their Nantucket beach wedding, Candace Bushnell donned a white Ralph Lauren cocktail dress and hubby Charles Askegard wore a white Prada suit. Both were barefoot. Candace once denounced marriage as a “male institution that leaves women alone and unhappy,” according to the New York Times, but the couple married just eight weeks after they met. Candace was 43 and Charles was 33. When the couple tied the knot on the Fourth of July, a wedding-goer proclaimed it “Lose-Your-Independence Day.”

{Poll} Cougar couples… delightful or doomed?

Cougar, Mrs. Robinson, Cradle Robber … the nicknames may make you laugh, but FOFs dating younger men is a serious trend. A 2003 study by AARP revealed that 34 percent of women over 40 were dating younger men, and 35 percent preferred it to dating older men. “This generation of over-50 women has more energy. They want to go out, travel, exercise and have fabulous careers,” says FOF dating coach Cheryl Savage. “Men in their 30s and 40s are a better match for their energy.”  Read about 4 FOF celebs and their significantly younger beaus. Then, share what you think: Are “cougar” romances delightful. . . .or doomed?

Was Lance Armstrong FOF Sheryl Crow’s favorite mistake? Maybe… and more likely, her youngest. Sheryl is nine years Lance’s senior. The Grammy-award winning singer and the pro-cyclist met at a charity event in 2003 and fell fast for each other. “I’ve never had anybody be so completely positive that I’m the person that they want to be with,” said Sheryl in an interview with ABC News.  “I can be myself with Sheryl, she can be herself with me, so we relieve each other of pressure.” Lance told Oprah in 2005. But, ultimately it was pressure that tore them apart. That same year, the two were engaged and shortly after broke it off. It was just two weeks before Sheryl’s 44th birthday. “She wanted marriage, she wanted children; and not that I didn’t want that, but I didn’t want that at that time because I had just gotten out of a marriage, I’d just had kids,” Armstrong, reveals in his biography Lance. “Yet we’re up against her biological clock — that pressure is what cracked it.”

Cheryl says: “A lot of time when a woman gets to that age, it puts pressure on the relationship. Lance had been married and had children, Sheryl hadn’t. That is a discussion that needs to happen up front because it could break a relationship. I’m not talking the first, second or third date, but early on in the relationship that conversation needs to happen.”

FOF newscaster Katie Couric made news when she began dating a man 17 years her junior. “I was reading the New York Times and I look up and there are six paparazzi,” she says in a People magazine article. “All I could think was, Where is Britney Spears?” The paparazzi were actually snapping shots of Katie, 54, and her boyfriend, Brooks Perlin, the 37-year-old CFO of Eco Supply Center on a recent trip to Florida. The two met at a fundraising event in 2006, according to People, but Katie has only spoken about the relationship recently. “I thought he was really cute,” says Katie of their meeting. “He asked me if I wanted to have dinner sometime, and I liked that it was so direct and natural.” She confessed that she considered canceling the date when she found out his age. “I knew he was younger but I didn’t think he was that much younger!” Luckily, she didn’t back out…and the two have been together ever since. “I’ve been called all kinds of things. I’ve been ‘cougared,’ which was just obnoxious. But if its good enough for Demi right?” says Katie who takes the criticism in stride. “He’s incredibly kind, caring and sensitive,” she says of Brooks. “He challenges me in ways I wouldn’t be challenged otherwise.”

Cheryl says: “I’ve been in that situation. I was on a date with a man seventeen years younger and I started judging myself. I was like “Ohmigod, why am I here? I was seventeen when he was born.” I calmed myself down and asked myself the four questions I encourage all women to ask themselves when they are unsure on a date. Do I like him? Is he interesting? What can I learn about him? How do I feel when I’m with him?” I felt good, and I just let myself have a good time. Thank goodness Katie went out on the date with Brooks and didn’t judge herself. Katie says Brooks challenges her. I get the impression he challenges her physically as well. A younger love interest can push us to take better care of ourselves.

“I never thought I’d be the marrying type, really,” said New York socialite and Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell, who “once declared marriage a male institution that leaves women alone and unhappy,” according to The New York Times. But, even she got struck by cupid’s arrow. Candace met her hubby Charles Askegard, a principal dancer for the New York Ballet, at a $3,000-a-plate benefit in 2002. Candace was 43 and Charles was 33 at the time. “At first he seemed too young,” says Candace. “But then I looked into his eyes and it was like. ‘Whoa!'” The couple tied the knot just two months later, barefoot on the beach in Nantucket. ”It’s the end of an era, definitely,” said Candace’s longtime friend Jay McInerney. “Candace Bushnell gets married — it’s like Johnny Carson retiring.” Perhaps it was the end of an era, but for Candace and a whole generation of Sex and the City fans, it started a revelation — true love can strike at any age. “I waited for the right person, and I encourage other women to do the same,” says Candace. And to those who call her a “cougar”: “[It’s] a derogatory term used to make a woman feel uncomfortable because she’s not keeping up the status quo,” says Candace. “When have I kept up the status quo?”

Cheryl says: Candace found love because she went to the charity dinner with no expectations. Her mind wasn’t on finding a husband. She was also in tune enough with her emotions to realize that there was a connection between her and Charles. So many women don’t get dates because they are not paying attention to the men who are out there interested in them. I constantly teach women how to go to a function, get rid of all the judgment and be open. One woman asked me why her hands get sweaty when she talks to certain men. I said, “that’s chemistry!” If you are in a room and feel something, always, go towards that chemistry.

Married…with Children star Katey Segal has had far from traditional experiences with marriage and children. Three times married, the 57-year-old actress had multiple complications with fertility. During her second marriage, to musician Jack White, she was able to conceive two children but only after multiple miscarriages. Katey and Jack divorced in 2000, and four years later, Katey was introduced by a friend to her third and final hubby, director and producer Kurt Sutter. She was 50, he was 44. “He asked me if I would have coffee with him sometime, and I said yes, and then I was kind of out of touch,” said Katey in an interview with E! Online. “And then he called me like a couple months later and asked me to coffee, and we went and kind of never left each other after that.” The couple welcomed their daughter Esmé, born via surrogacy, in 2007. “My thing about having another child was, time’s-a-wasting!” said Katey in an interview with People Magazine. “I was unable to carry a child, so we were always looking at alternative approaches. Our surrogacy situation just fell into place really easily….I held Esmé, and Kurt cut the cord. It was a beautiful experience.”

Cheryl says: It sounds like Kurt pursued Katey, which is good. I always suggest to women that when you are asked out, go! It doesn’t matter if you think he is too old, too young, too short, too tall or has a hole in his jeans. When Katey met Kurt she was probably thinking “I don’t know, I was unsuccessful at marriage two times….” But, bless her, she finally gave him a chance. They probably had a conversation very early in the relationship that he wanted children and they had to figure out how to do it and they did. Again, with an older woman and younger man, that discussion about children should come up at some point early on.”

{Poll} Bizarre Celeb Beauty Rituals: Would you try them?

*Sigh* the things FOFs do for beauty! And these 5 FOF celebs take it to a whole new level… Read about their bizarre beauty rituals, see what a dermatologist thinks, then vote: Would you try it?

Call it vinotherapy. Actually, that’s what top resorts in Spain, Portugal and France are already calling pricey beauty treatments where wine residue is rubbed into the skin. In The Black Book of Hollywood Beauty Secrets,  Kym Douglas and celebrity journalist Cindy Pearlman write that Teri Hatcher uses sediment from red wine to polish her skin in the tub. “I scoop them up and use them as an exfoliant,” says Teri. “The only bad thing is you can’t drink the whole bottle of wine.” According to the authors, polyphenols found in grapes get blood flowing.

Dr. Krant says: “Scrubbing and massaging get blood flowing on their own, so it’s not clear if she is getting the benefit she expects from the red wine itself. Proanthocyanidins from red grapes have been shown to have real health benefits from their antioxidant properties when ingested, but the anti-aging effect from topical use has much less scientific evidence behind it.”

Milk does a body good…but what about a face?  Cindy Crawford thinks so. The Daily Record reports that the almost-FOF supermodel mixes milk and water and sprays in on her face to keep her skin hydrated. Milk baths have apparently been around for centuries; historical beauties including Cleopatra and Elizabeth I of England indulged in the lactic luxury. Everybody’s mooin..er..doin’ it.

Dr. Krant says: “Milk contains lactic acid which does contain some exfoliative and skin-softening properties. Milk fats also help moisturize and keep skin supple.”

Ever wonder how some celebs get that “baby-faced” complexion? Just ask FOF diva Madonna, who reportedly uses a face cream made with human placenta. The product is called EMK Placental, and according to BeautyUndercover.com, Madonna and a slew of other A-listers are using it. Placenta “helps oxygenate your skin…improve natural cellular renewal and… protects your skin from the assault of environmental stress, UV radiation…and the natural aging process,” according to the EMK Placental product website.

Dr. Krant says: “Placenta contains many growth factors and vitamins. It has been studied for wounds, but there has been little to no scientific proof of its affect on intact, healthy human skin.”

Almost-FOF actress Sandra Bullock has become the butt of tabloid jokes for her bizarre beauty ritual. Glamour UK reports that Sandra uses hemorrhoid cream under her eyes to reduce puffiness. “I didn’t realise that putting hemorrhoid ointment on your face is acceptable in the beauty business,” says Sandra. “But apparently, butt cream helps lines around the eyes!” Sandra says it’s true….so, no butts about it.

Dr. Krant says: Preparation H from the 1950’s did contain an ingredient, Bio-Dyne (R), that helped de-puff, but that ingredient has been removed from the modern version of the cream–in the United States. Bio-Dyne does still come in the Canadian preparation. So it’s not just any hemorrhoid cream that can do the trick. Makes you wonder which one Sandra is using….

Debra Messing doesn’t throw a hissy fit about her eye wrinkles… No, she just uses snake venom to smooth them out. That’s right, this almost-FOF actress uses an eye cream which contains snake’s venom as an active ingredient, according to The Sun, “The venom slows the reponses of the face muscles, creating a wrinkle-free effect.”

Dr. Krant says: “Venom has not been proven to penetrate through healthy, intact skin to the deep layers where the target muscles lie. This product likely has no scientific benefit (in the manner claimed) at all. In order to get the muscle-weakening benefit, the only proven treatment is still injected botulinum toxins (Botox) and Dysport, and a new one coming out soon. Sorry, needle-phobes.”

Talk about a detox. MSNBC reports that actress Demi Moore uses “highly-trained medical leeches” to keep healthy. “It detoxifies your blood,” she told Letterman.  Demi explains that these blood sucking vermin, “have a little enzyme that gets released into your blood… and your health is optimized.” Um, okay… “I feel like I’ve always been someone looking for the cutting edge of things that optimize your health and healing,” she says. Despite Demi’s loyalty to leeches, we predict this beauty trend will be sluggish to catch on…

Dr. Krant says: “Leeches have been used for centuries in medical treatments. Hirudo medicinalis, or medicinal leeches, likely the ‘highly-trained’ species Demi is referring to, are used effectively by surgeons to aid in wound cleaning, reconstructive surgery and other advanced treatments, but currently there is no proof that leech therapy has any anti-aging properties. Do not try this at home since uncontrollable, prolonged bleeding and infection can be undesired side effects.”

{Poll} Which FOF celeb home would you most want to move into?

These five FOF celeb homes were recently listed….. If money were no object (it’s fun to play pretend!) which one would you move into? Answer our poll below.

—————————————————————————————————–

Remember the breathtaking Malibu beach house in Sex and the City, where Samantha Jones lived with her beau, Smith Jerrod? That was no movie set. The five-bedroom, six-bathroom beachfront shangri-la is real… and for rent! You’ll need to shell out $55,000 each month, but, hey… you can’t put a price on fame…er… pretending to be famous. Then again, you’ll hardly need to pretend — it comes with all the original furniture from the movie. Strut like Samantha, passed your enormous glass wall with breathtaking ocean views to the bar (cosmo…anyone!?).  Unfortunately, Dante, the showering next-door neighbor, is not included!

Joan Rivers’ Upper East Side apartment is certainly a Piece of Work. The 5,190 square foot apartment, on the market since 2009, was featured in a 2010 documentary about Joan, by that name. The pad was restored to its original architectural detail by museum-trained artisans, “unlike Joan’s face,” according to a New York Magazine article which goes on to call the décor “surprisingly old-lady Versailles.” Still, the penthouse boasts a suite of superb reception rooms, a dramatic two-story gallery, a light-flooded living room, a spacious paneled library and a formal dining room. To top it all off is a terrace with majestic views of the city and Central Park…umm, “can we talk?

—————————————————————————————————–

Was T.V. queen Sharon Osbourne off-her-rocker when she bought this Hidden Hills home in 2003? She and Ozzy have barely stayed there, renting it out to tenants for $25,000 to $40,000 a month for the past eight years. This year, just weeks after the British pair were slapped with a $1.7 million dollar tax lien, the 4,500 sq. ft., 5-bedroom, 5-bathroom home was listed for $10 million. No rock paraphernalia here, but you will find a huge gourmet kitchen, a garden terrace, a hot tub and a large master suite with walk-in closets and a marble bath.

—————————————————————————————————–

In 2009, 92-year-old Hungarian-born actress Zsa Zsa Gabor was reported to have lost $7 million in the Madoff Ponzi scheme. On top of that, the ailing actress’s “medical bills are mounting,” according to The Guardian. Did she list her Bel Air mansion to increase cash flow? Whatever the reason, the estate, once owned by Elvis Presley, was built in the “Hollywood Regency style” and has four bedrooms, five and a half bathrooms, a pool and about 6,000 square feet of living space. But, is the property, currently listed at $15 million, cursed? The home was burglarized in February, and in late 2010 Prince Frederic von Anhalt (Zsa Zsa’s husband) thought he saw a massive snake on the mansion’s grounds. But, who cares about a little bad karma when you could be lounging by the pool where Zsa Zsa swam naked every morning, or entertaining guests where the Reagans, Bob Hope and Frank Sinatra partied.

—————————————————————————————————–

When a 1938 hurricane wiped the Hepburn family’s summer home off the map, Katharine used toy blocks to show builders exactly how she wanted the house rebuilt. Now, Katharine’s dream home is on the market for $28 million. The sprawling waterfront Connecticut estate, where the actress died in 2003, has been extensively renovated by the current owners but maintains much of the historical integrity. If you’re not spooked by the prospect of Katharine’s ghost, then you may want to consider making this 8,000 square foot, six-bedroom, seven-and-a-half bath oasis your home. Stalled by the steep price tag? A sweeping view of the Long Island Sound and the original fireplace where Katharine was often photographed may seal the deal.

{Poll} Do these FOF celeb suits sink or swim?

We applaud an FOF who hits the beach with confidence–especially when she knows she’s going to be photographed. Take a look a these FOF celebs in their bathing suits. Would you say everything went swimmingly for these stars, or did their fashion sense sink when they stepped on the sand?

“Julianne Moore is not shy about much, whether it is her body, age or kissing other women,” according to The New York Daily News. The actress, who just turned fifty, posed nude for a racy Bulgari ad that ran last year. When asked about it, she joked, “I like to call myself the hundred-year-old model.” Last November, she posed in a Hervé Léger by Max Azria cutout one-piece bathing suit for Allure. Upon finding out she’d be posing in swimwear, she joked with creative director Paul Cavaco, “Something with a skirt, I hope.” The above photo was snapped in Los Angeles in June, 2009.

Teen-model-turned-actress Anjelica Huston is pictured above vacationing in the Caribbean in late 2009. According to the Daily Mail, the 59-year-old actress retreated to the beach to relax after the death of her husband, Robert Graham, an acclaimed sculptor. Later that day she “Covered up and slipped into a tie-dye dress before embarking upon a dingy boat,” according to the Daily Mail.

Famously svelte FOF actress Goldie Hawn was spotted on a Malibu beach with her daughter Kate Hudson, son Oliver Hudson and grandson Ryder, according to PopSugar. At 65, she may opt for more covered up swimwear but that wasn’t always the case. At the age of thirty-nine, Hawn posed for the cover of Playboy’s January 1985 issue in a giant martini glass wearing nothing but a white collar shirt, a loosened black tie, and a pair of red stilettos. It became one of their highest selling issues although according to Starpulse it sparked “a ridiculous controversy…over whether a woman going-on 40 could still be a sex-symbol.”

Janice Dickinson, the 56-year-old “America’s Next Top Model” judge, self-proclaimed “first supermodel,” and mother of two was spotted “frolicking in the sunshine in a yellow-and-white two piece swimsuit during her Hawaiian vacation,” according to the website CelebGlitz. Janice, has openly admitted she’s gone under the knife. “She has had a breast enlargement, tummy tuck, neck and facelifts, liposuction and Botox,” according to The Daily Mail. According to ABC News, Janice has “no regrets” about her plastic surgery procedures…After all, should she?

FOF Jerry Hall was discovered as a model in her teens, sunbathing on a Saint Tropez beach. Over three decades later, Jerry was again spotted catching rays in the South of France (see above photograph). This time though, she’s 54 and the mother of four. Still, “she was turning heads as she walked along the beach,” an onlooker said. That was not the case a few years back, when according to The Daily Mail, two unflattering bathing suit photos of Jerry surfaced. First, there was the “most unfortunate shot of her way back in 2001 showing off a crop of dimples as she stood in the water in a black one-piece.” Then, there was a photo of her “with a smattering of cellulite on her thighs as she boarded a boat” in 2009 — “blips in her perfect bikini record.”

FOF celeb chef and “queen of food porn,” Nigella Lawson is known for her flirtatious on-air personality. She was even once named the “third most beautiful woman in the world,” according to The Guardian.  But, she was recently spotted, off-air, on Sydney’s Bondi Beach all covered up in a burka-like bathing suit. “Nigella was protecting herself from sunburn, nothing more than that,” said her spokesman, according to The Telegraph. The article also says that Nigella purchased the “burkini” (which has an SPF of 50+!) from Islamic swimwear company Modestly Active.

FOF Sharon Stone is notoriously shameless about baring it all. In 1992 she shocked audiences as a sexy killer in the erotic thriller Basic Instinct. “The beautiful blonde…revealed her fabulous physique to the audience—leaving NOTHING to the imagination!” according to Radar online. To coincide with the 1990 release of Total Recall, she posed nude for Playboy showing off the . . . muscles she developed in preparation for the movie. In 1999, she was rated among the 25 sexiest stars of the century by Playboy. More recently, the 53-year-old actress was spotted and photographed on vacation in Sardinia, Italy, once again flaunting her figure.

When FOF actress Helen Mirren was photographed wearing a red bikini in summer 2008, the media went wild. “Helen Mirren the bikini queen reigns supreme at 63” was a headline in the The Daily Mail. The Huffington Post called the Oscar-winning actress a “bathing bikini beauty.” Helen, herself, couldn’t even believe it. ‘The truth is,” she said, “I don’t really look that good,” reported The Daily Mail. “I look like a woman in her 60s. I’ve always looked awful in a bikini, even when I was younger.”

Does this look work (for work)?

In the 1988 movie Working Girl, Melanie Griffith’s character, Tess, longs to transform herself from a Staten Island secretary to a Manhattan businesswoman. Her boss, played by Sigourney Weaver, imparts this fashion wisdom: “Dress shabbily and they notice the dress. Dress impeccably, and they notice the woman.”

When you look at this FOF, do you see the clothes or the woman? Our FOF Style Gurus have strong opinions–do you agree? (Plus, this FOF happens to be a serious VIP in the working world. Can you guess who it is?)

Sherrie Mathieson: I love it. This is understated-luxe at it’s best. The palette of neutrals accentuated by warm plums and browns is exquisite. A variety of textures give excitement to this comfortable look. She is a poster child for my personal philosophy for successful style: modern classics, high quality, and dressing to emphasize your best features (notice the lovely ankles). Even her nails are perfectly groomed!

Sherrie Mathieson is a leading style expert and Random House author of Steal this Style and Forever Cool.

—————————————————————————————————–

Susan Grant: The proportion of the pieces is perfect and so is the combination of textures. I love the dark knit top with shantung slacks. The wedge shoes are a feminine, modern touch. She is simply and elegantly accessorized with her watch and skin clutch. This look works!

Susan Grant is merchandise manager for Muse, a full-service jewelry showroom.

—————————————————————————————————–

Lovey Dash: I like the proportions – the longer cardigan cover up with the shorter pant. The mix of colors are interesting, yet neutral, and age appropriate. Her watch, (I think it’s Hermes) and clutch look right but the shoes are killing her outfit! They are too casual and cheapen the look. I would have preferred a peep-toe kitten heel or even a nice Chanel flat.

Lovey Dash is a Beverly Hills-based stylist. She was formerly in VIP sales for Louis Vuitton on Rodeo Drive.

—————————————————————————————————–

Susan Hersh: I love the color of her shoes and clutch, but  her cardigan is not flattering. She has it buttoned in the center but it would look better if she wore it open. It’s also pulling on her and hugging her buttocks. A more relaxed cardigan, in a heavier knit will not cling or show every ripple on her back. I’d prefer if she wore something more like this.

Susan Hersh is a Ford Model and the host and executive producer of Meet The Experts.

{Poll} Which celeb is the stingiest?

We hear so much gossip about the lavish lifestyles of loaded stars, but, talk is cheap…and so are these 4 FOF celebs. In your opinion, who is the stingiest?

Barbra Streisand

The frugal facts: Barbra is the veteran of vintage. A 1997 New York Times article about the rising popularity of vintage clothing credits “Babs” as the first female celeb to perform in thrifted togs.

The multimillionairess allegedly left $10 on a $457 bill at a New York restaurant. Shortly after she was heard singing all the way to the bank….
—————————————————————————————————–

Madonna

The frugal facts: Everyone knows “we are living in a material world” but did someone forget to tell the “Material Girl”?  A 2007 novel by a New York waitress exposes Madonna for not leaving a tip after being served in a restaurant. Hey, Madonna, we have a tip for you: Pop icons aren’t excused from dining etiquette!

In a book about Madonna, her own brother calls her “stingy” for giving their grandmother only limited financial help: “But my sister –who in 2008 is worth in excess of $600 million…opted at the time to send our grandmother just $500 a month and to pay her monthly household bills, for Madonna, a drop in the ocean,” wrote her brother. “When I think of Madonna’s wealth, I can’t help but think she’s being stingy with the grandmother who helped raise us.”

—————————————————————————————————–

Teri Hatcher

The frugal facts: Almost-FOF Teri Hatcher plays a well-off Desperate Housewife on television, but in real life this single mom desperately pinches pennies. The actress, estimated to be worth $50 million, told People magazine, “I’m a very conservative person. I drive my cars for 10 years until they have 100,000 miles on them….I don’t spend my money on sports cars or new million-dollar houses. To me, feeling comfortable means having way more than I need in the bank.”

And there’s no costly outsourcing for this Supermom, who “stayed up half the night to turn out such extravaganzas as 300 individually wrapped homemade chocolate butterfly lollipops” for her daughter Emerson’s school, according to an article in Vanity Fair.
—————————————————————————————————–

Queen Elizabeth

The frugal facts:
The recession has even Queen Elizabeth II, the world’s largest personal landowner tightening her royal purse strings. According to FrugallyMinded.com, “The British tabloids frequently allude to the Queen’s passion for turning-off the lights around Buckingham Palace, and tongues have wagged about her cautions to the princes, saying that she sternly has warned them not to flaunt the royal wealth.”

A royal Thriftmas? In 2008 the queen cut back with £7.95 crown decorations to decorate her Christmas tree and by having her presents made in China to save money. “It’s not just at Christmas but right throughout the year that she tries hard to keep costs down.” A spokesperson told Britain’s Hello! magazine. “The queen has been extremely thrifty all her life and jokes that it’s her Scottish blood.”

The spokesperson may not have been kidding about thriftiness being in the queen’s blood… Her mother had a reputation for frugality. According to a recent Telegraph article the Queen Mother “refused to buy a TV…and relied on an ‘antiquated’ video recorder to watch horse racing.” She also “regarded her favourite Burberry jackets as “old friends” from whom she was unable to part. He [her aide] said he did not see her wear a new raincoat during his 28 years of service.”

{Poll} If money were no object… Which lavish celeb vacation would you take?

Earlier this year, on the premier of the 25th and final season of her eponymous talk show, Oprah Winfrey surprised 300 audience members by announcing she was taking them on an eight-day, all-expenses paid vacation to Australia. But even that epic trip doesn’t hold a candle to some of the more extravagant vacations the FOF daytime queen has taken herself. And Oprah’s not the only FOF star who splurges on over-the-top trips. Read about 4 lavish celeb vacations then decide: Which one would you most want to take?

Oprah Winfrey – Necker Island, British Virgin Islands
PRICE: $54,500 – $56,000 per night for up to 28 guests (5 night minimum)

When Oprah wants to live out her Blue Lagoon fantasies she knew exactly where to go: Sir Richard Branson’s 74-acre,  completely private island. There, she and her friends had access to every water sport under the sun, plus a private, high-speed submarine, the Necker Nymph. The 2:1 staff-to-guest ratio makes this island truly fit for royalty, and the Queen of Daytime Television is no exception–while visiting the oasis, she and her “court” were waited on hand-and-foot by the island’s 60 staff members.

Madonna – Christina O Yacht in the Caribbean
PRICE: $64,000 – $93,000 per day

In the 1960s, Aristotle Onassis and Jackie O used this super-yacht as their own floating mansion while entertaining the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra and Winston Churchill. In 2009, when Madonna chartered a trip, it had long-since been converted to a private playground for celebs at sea. On board, the Material FOF enjoyed Michelin Star cuisine, massages at Six Senses spa, and the legendary pool with mosaic floor – which rises to form a dance floor at the flick of a switch.

Jodie Foster – Hotel Martinez Penthouse Prestige Apartment in Cannes
PRICE: $37,000 per night

For those who like to feel as if they’re living in a 007 movie, consider this palatial penthouse on the French Riviera. When FOF-in-waiting Jodie Foster stays here, she enjoys 24-hour butler service (helpful in case she’s in the master bedroom and too tired to walk all the way to the kitchen for a snack – the suite is, after all, 2,000 square-feet). Should she work up a sweat visiting the linen closet, she can rejuvenate in the in-room Turkish steam bath or enjoy jaw-dropping views of the Mediterranean.

Victoria Principal – Virgin Galactic Spaceflight in sub-orbital outer space (in planning)
PRICE: $200,000 per person

If a stay on a private island is still too terrestrial for you (Necker Island does, after all, share a hemisphere with countless Best Westerns and Days Inns) Sir Richard Branson would love nothing more than to shoot you into outer space. FOF Victoria Principal is among the luminaries who have expressed interest in a Virgin Galactic spaceflight, which would comprise a six-passenger, two-pilot spacecraft taking you 70,000 feet above Mother Earth and back into her warm embrace in around 3.5 hours. The trip will most likely include six minutes of weightlessness, a perk no matter how many carbs you’ve been eating.

{Poll} Celeb Plastic Surgery….Fake or Fabulous?

These 9 FOF celebs went under the knife and…well, you tell us. Do you think their new faces look fake or fabulous? Plus, Dr. Fardad Forouzanpour, board-certified cosmetic surgeon and owner of The Beverly Hills Cosmetic Surgical Group, weighs in. Dr. Fardad specializes in breast augmentations, lifts & reductions, eyelash transplants, rhinoplasties, liposuctions/liposculpture, abdominoplasties and more.

Dr. Fardad: “She looks good, despite a few asymmetries. Her facial features are very natural, but her inner brows are slightly too low.  Looking at the outer corner of her eyes, a little more skin hangs on the right compared to the left.”

Dr. Fardad: “Jane looks natural and not overdone at all.  However, there are a few small corrections she could consider: A slight asymmetry at the outer upper eyelids (there’s more skin hanging on the right side) and a few lines in the outer corner of the eyes.

Dr. Fardad: “She looks very natural and her brows are well-positioned.  She could use some touch-ups: light Botox around the corners of her eyes, a little skin removed from the lower lids and some skin tightening to treat facial lines.”

Dr. Fardad: “Jessica’s cheeks are a little too large for her face, perhaps as the result of an implant or too much filler.  The forehead is a little high.  Her eyes appear to be over-corrected with the lower lid pulled too tight. The right eye appears to be smaller in size than the left. The upper lip shows signs of aging.”

Dr. Fardad: Her cheeks are very large, the lips appear unnatural, the skin looks unhealthy, and her eyes look to be different sizes (the right eye is wider). The lower lids have lines, bulges and looseness.  The chin is slightly droopy which might be due to a malpositioned or too-large implant. It would be tough to make her look completely natural again.”

Dr. Fardad: “Her brows are too lifted making her look permanently surprised. The cheeks are very full and the lower jaw and chin line are quite wide.  The upper eyelids are asymmetrical (more platform on the left than the right).  The skin looks over treated with peels or laser resurfacing — it’s too white, too smooth and too glossy.”

Dr. Fardad: Sharon looks natural and youthful. Her jaw line looks great and facial features are well proportioned.  She doesn’t needs anything done.”

Dr. Fardad:It’s obvious she has had work done.  Her face is very round, and her cheeks are quite full. She has quite a number of lines on the sides of the eyes and upper cheeks.  The eyes are small and perhaps pulled too tight.”

{Poll} Vote for the most generous FOF celeb!

Celeb scandals abound. But you rarely hear about celebs’ good deeds. Read about 4 charitable FOF stars, and then vote on which one has the biggest heart.

Oprah Winfrey

Her good deeds:
-In 2005, Oprah gave $50 million to the Oprah Winfrey Foundation in Chicago to support education and other programs for women and children in the United States and abroad.

Oprah’s Angel Network, which she launched in 1997, has raised more than $80 million and touched lives in more than 30 countries around the world. Oprah personally covered all administrative costs associated with the charity, so all funds raised could help others. Among other accomplishments, Oprah’s Angel Network worked with Free The Children to build more than 55 schools in 12 countries, providing education for thousands of children in rural areas. The network provided more than $1 million worth of school supplies for 18,000 impoverished South African children and helped more than 1,000 New Orleans families get back on their feet after Katrina.

-In 2007, Oprah invested $40 million and her own time establishing the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa. The school originally enrolled 150 pupils and has state-of-the-art classrooms, computer and science labs, a library, theater and beauty salon. Oprah teaches a class at the school via satellite. “For many years, people always asked me why didn’t I have children?… Now I know why I didn’t have children,” Oprah said in an interview with CNN.  “Because I  have all of these daughters…These girls are a reflection of me, and I’m 100 percent certain that this school will produce the leaders of tomorrow.”

-Oprah’s lifetime charitable donations estimate: $303 million

Martha Stewart

Her good deeds:
-While serving time in jail, Martha Stewart, an animal lover, created a video on behalf of fur-bearing animals after being approached by PETA. “I used to wear real fur, but, like many others, I had a change of heart when I learned what actually happens to the animals,” said Martha in the video.

-In 2006, she gave $5 million to New York’s Mt. Sinai Hospital for a center on healthy aging. Martha said the donation was inspired by the death of her mother, Martha Kostyra. “About a year after she died,” said Stewart in an interview with ABC NEWS/Nightline, “I was cleaning my shelf where I keep my pocketbooks. And I remember being handed this brown pocketbook. I looked inside, and written in gold inside was a beautiful message from my mother telling me how proud she was of my accomplishments. I’d never seen it before. I’d never thanked her.”

Rosie O’Donnell

Her good deeds:
-In 1997, Rosie O’Donnell used the $3 million advance from her memoir to found her organization “For All Kids.” Since it’s inception, the foundation has awarded more than $22 million in early childhood care and education program grants to over 900 nonprofit organizations. The opening of The Children’s Plaza and Family Center in Renaissance Village, a FEMA trailer park in Louisiana, was another initiative of Rosie’s foundation.

-Listerine donated more than $350,000  for charity on behalf of Rosie’s “Unkissable” campaign. Every time a guest on Rosie’s show would kiss her, Listerine execs would donate $1,000 to charity.

-In 2003, Rosie founded “Rosie’s Broadway Kids,” (Now “Rosie’s Theater Kids”), an organization dedicated to providing free music and dance instruction to New York City public schools or students. She donated all profits made from her 2007 book, Celebrity Detox, to the cause. The organization serves more than 4,500 teachers, students and their family members at 21 schools.

-Rosie’s lifetime charitable donations estimate: $100 million

Barbra Streisand
